Welcome to CEIE
The Center for Ecumenical and Interreligious Engagement (CEIE) at Seattle University
Is rooted in a Jesuit, Catholic commitment to ecumenical and interreligious engagement, spiritual and indigenous pathways, and to cultural wisdom. Students, alumni, faculty, and partners from the university and within these communities serve on CEIE advisory councils.
We serve The whole student (cura personalis) in university, ecumenical and interreligious communities, and in our work with national and international partners.
We create The art of encounter, (Pope Francis) through monthly webinars, winter and spring workshops, a course on religious literacy, future certificate programs, and other sources of beauty and practical purpose with a heart open to the world (Fratelli Tutti).
We convene Scholars on timely intercultural conversations. Meet CEIE Scholars and read about our most recent study on Gratitude, Injury and Repair in a Pandemic Age.

Certificates
CEIE is committed to teaching and learning in the areas of theology and ministry, bringing forward in new ways the core features of this inspiration that was historically carried by the School of Theology and Ministry, and predecessor bodies. The center is currently planning certificate programs that will serve a range of student populations, and these certificates will be presented in partnership with a new unit at the university dedicated to assisting this purpose.
CEIE Scholarship
The Center for Ecumenical and Interreligious Engagement (CEIE) at Seattle University is dedicated to the Ignatian sensibility for “finding God in all things,” with a preferential option for convening faculty and practitioners (CEIE Scholars) who engage topics at the margins of society.
Evident in our scholarly projects to date, CEIE scholars are convened across disciplines. The chosen topics present significant moral, societal, and leadership challenges for the world. Our most recent project, Gratitude, Injury, and Repair in a Pandemic Age is now available for pre-order through Georgetown University Press. We are currently working on our second volume with the publishing house, focusing on Discerning Leadership.
CEIE Leadership
CEIE is led by an integrated team of Students, Alumni, Faculty & Community Fellows, Advisory Council Members, a Coordinator, and our Director. Religions speak of a community being “many stones in a shared household.” At the Center, all of the dedicated people on this page share in creating, implementing, and leading.

"Jesuit institutions of higher education aim to educate individuals and “transform cultures and societies” (GC 36, D1, n.34). We 'educate persons of integrity who will take up responsibility for themselves, for others, and for the earth that we all inhabit to make the world a better place."
